Use Your Acting Skills and Earn $250/hour
By Aaron Marcus of (OMP Member #74938)
If you ever need to find additional work while pursuing a career in the acting or production field, then you might want to consider commercial modeling. If you are only interested in acting, don't dismiss commercial modeling too quickly.
Commercial modeling has nothing to do with fashion or runway modeling. It is a still picture of a commercial. It is acting without words. Commercial modeling, unlike fashion, has no height, weight, or age restrictions. Commercial models appear in literally thousands of different types of ads ranging from insurance to cars. Photographers love hiring actors, because they can take direction, and provide a variety of layers of believable emotions.
The majority of the bookings for commercial models are not the 16-18 year-old ingenues' with the perfect bodies, instead the majority are the urban professional, family, professionally oriented type jobs. Some of the most successful models are between 30 - 50 years of age.
Most people who are not getting the work they desire are not lacking in talent, but are simply unprepared. Learn as much as you can before trying to get started. Commercial modeling can be a wonderful way to use your acting skills and earn money. In the Baltimore/D.C. market we earn $125-$150/hour, New York - $250/hr and L.A. $187.50/hr. The hours are extremely flexible. You can leave your "regular" job, do a print job for a few hours and go back to work.
Before I became a full-time actor and commercial model I put myself through two years of college doing this work part-time. It can be a lot of fun and financial rewarding. If interested, you can read more about commercial modeling at my site, www.howtomodel.com
