by occupation and avocation i am a professor of poetry and poetics. i do not rank my three interests: creating serious sensuous photographic images, writng carefully pared down poetry, and being just as equally devoted to researching, teaching and writing academic stuff.

I AM A KEEN AND RESTLESS TRAVELLER TO ODD AND UNEXPECTED DESTINATIONS--FROM THE VERY REMOTE 'HIGH' ARCTIC TO STELLENBOSCH, THE WINE-GROWING REGION OF SOUTH AFRICA. OFTEN, HOWEVER, THE REMOTE PLACES ARE QUITE NEAR AT HAND. I AM ALWAYS LOOKING FOR IMAGINATIVE AND OPEN-MINDED MODELS FOR COMPANY AND SHOOTS ON MY TRAVELS. THE QUESTION FROM MODELS THAT ALWAYS STUMPS ME: 'WHAT IS YOUR THEME FOR THE SHOOT?'

MY ANSWER: I HAVE ONLY ONE 'THEME' IN EACH SHOOT--THAT THEME IS THE MODEL HER/HIM-SELF. IF YOU TRY TO BE THE SECRET PERSON YOU GENERALLY DARE NOT BECOME, BUT DEEPLY WISH TO BE--THEN THAT OTHER YOU WILL BE MY 'THEME'.
