Chapter 38

"American Curves" Cover Features Work of Creative Couple Kellie and Jason
by Elias AllStar OMP Member #10270

If you have seen an issue of "American Curves" recently, you may recognize a familiar face staring back at you from the cover. Kellie M OMP Model #136351 is perhaps best known for her work with Playboy. She was also one of the featured models at several recent GW Burns Workshops that were co-sponsored by One Model Place.

What you may not know is that the striking cover image was photographed by Kellie's husband, Jason Lee OMP Member #204880. The couple has been together for 12 years and married for the last five years. They met at a High School basketball game. Jason recalls,
"Kellie walked up and asked me where I was taking her out that Friday night, and my reply was 'wherever you want to go!'"
After she appeared in "American Curves" last February, Kellie suggested to Jason that he should try submitting for the publication. No one could have predicted that his first tear sheet would turn out to be a national cover. Kellie has been modeling for four years. She got her start by signing up on One Model Place.
"One of the first photographers I worked with through OMP was GW Burns OMP Member #18425. He gave both Jason and myself some great advice, and I got busy right after that first shoot."
Jason just started shooting photos professionally a year ago. Having a gorgeous model as a wife made it easy to get his start.
"I began practicing on Kellie and posted some photos on OMP. Plus it doesn't hurt having GW Burns as my mentor!"
The two have a unique working relationship. Kellie relates,
"I know that there is not going to be a photo out there that I don't like because Jason asks my opinion - plus, he knows what I like." Jason adds, "Working with Kellie is different than other models. She is so hard on me to get the right shots. But I know she is only doing that so I can get better!"
Jason sent in almost 40 photos to "American Curves" and his efforts paid off.
"I got the email address of the editor from the magazine, and sent him a few beach and glamour photos and asked what he thought of my work. Next thing I know, he wanted more photos sent to him.
When Kellie found out that she made the cover, she was overwhelmed.
"It was the best feeling in the world! Not only because I was on the cover, but Jason got the cover as well, and it was something we did together!"
Jason was also excited at the news.
"My first tear sheet and it was a cover - it doesn't get any better than that!"
Kellie gives the following advice to other models who want to submit to magazines and get tear sheets.
"Keep trying. Always send something just to start with, because it only takes that one photo to catch their eye and then you're in!"
Jason's advice for other photographers who want to submit to magazines and get tear sheets is simple.
"Be sure you study the magazine that you plan on submitting to, and send in shots that they will want. Be sure the images are your best. I shot a ton of photos before I sent any in!"
