Amanda Divides Time Between Workshop Modeling and Acting in Horror Films

Having only started modeling about a year ago, Amanda (OMP Model #267294) has already accomplished quite a lot. That's probably because she is, as she describes herself, "a bit of a workaholic and diligent networker." Being 5'4" makes that a requirement for success, she says.

"Luckily I'm lanky, so the height tends not to be a problem in print work which is what I do as far as modeling."

The Birmingham, Alabama resident enjoys working with both professionals and amateur photographers, as long as the common goal is to create something beautiful.

"My preference is fashion and glamour in a studio setting. However, I have certainly been known to enjoy other genres of modeling and outdoor shoots. I love my job and everything that goes along with it... like traveling and meeting new people."

Amanda first tried modeling at the prompting of a friend.

"Jade de Chaos of Blue Lotus (OMP #184708) asked me to pose for her. I thought that would be a lot of fun since I had been acting in films for about a year and modeling is simply 'still' acting. I fell in love with it immediately. She posted a beautiful portfolio for me on One Model Place immediately. She started introducing me to other photographers who could help build my portfolio, like Southbound (OMP #17776), and he in turn introduced me to others, until I started traveling around a making a living at it."

Recently Amanda has participated in workshops for such photographers as Southbound, Rolando Gomez (#1332), Bill Lemon (#4278), Dennis Keim of DK (#4703), Paul Hamer (#9441), and GW Burns (#18425).

"I help photographers with their portfolios a good bit, and pose for books and galleries. It's taken me to L.A. Detroit, Milwaukee, Nashville, Atlanta, Miami, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii, among many other places."

Before any shoot, she always inquires about the purpose of the session.

"I ask about the concepts we will be shooting, what the photographers are looking for, what sorts of clothes, looks, and emotions to evoke. Other than that I just fall right into whatever project I'm doing. During shoots, often times I think about my boyfriend or how great my life is, or how fabulous my job is, and that usually gets a sparkle in my eye."

She recalls her favorite shoots with talented collaborators.

"I had a recent shoot with Duke Morse and J. Bailey in Austin that was quite entertaining and productive. That shoot lasted till 1am. Other than that, my favorite places to shoot are Los Angeles and Miami... and I want to say to Efren Herrera (#144376), John Fisher (#3327), Jimmy Fikes, Christian Behr, Eyelight, and everyone else I've shot with in those areas... THANK YOU! It was a blast! Rex Ames (#187147) and Preston Myers in Hawaii and Dave Parker (#190476) in Puerto Rico were particularly memorable as well. My experiences with OMP photographers have been stellar for the most part. I've met many of my favorite photographers through OMP. Southbound and DK, you're my heroes!"

She also wants to send a big Thank You to One Model Place.

"OMP is where I get most of my work and where I do most of my networking. The travel notifications feature is my bread and butter. Even when people aren't on OMP, I can send them a link to my portfolio and they are able to hire me. I couldn't live without OMP at this point."

When she's not posing, Amanda works in front of another type of camera.

"My main focus is acting. I star in independent horror films for the most part and that is my passion. I'm also a psychology student at UAB. I am moving to Los Angeles in February to further pursue my careers in modeling, acting, and psychology."

She has some pertinent advice for models just starting out.

"CHECK REFERENCES! We live in a dangerous world, so talk to other models who have worked with your prospective photographers. Other than that, network, network, network. Find work; don't expect it to come to you when you first begin. I can't tell you how many hours I sit at my computer and do just that. Oh and for the love of Pete, if you're going to shoot the next day, get some sleep the night before!"
