There are
people who strive to make permanent careers out of their
passion for posing; others enter modeling on a whim
or out of curiosity, approaching the activity as a part-time
pursuit.
Originally from the Bay Area, Jayne
is currently a college student in Southern California.
She makes it clear that her studies take precedence
over any artistic endeavors. “Modeling for me
is really just a hobby. Because of my busy schedule,
I have very little time to devote to it. So I never
contact photographers, but instead only respond when
they contact me.”
The 23-year-old Asian American has dabbled in the beauty
business for the past year, collaborating with over
two dozen photographers. She’s received a wide
range of images, and regularly updates her book with
new looks after the photo sessions. “I have a
portfolio with 8” x 10” prints, and I think
it is important to keep it current. Right now I have
about 30-35 pictures in it.”
In a short time, Jayne’s “hobby”
has rewarded her with paying jobs for magazines, calendars,
and CD covers. She is also a popular presence on the
Import Car scene.

“I
get a lot of response from my profile on OMP, and
also from my own website -- www.jaynemccloud.com.
My website makes it easier for any photographers to
view many different looks that I can pull off. Also,
because I have started a hobby in modeling at various
car shows, my site helps bring me ‘fans’.
I have gotten many positive comments on my website
from guys and girls who have met me at a show or event.”
She does not have a manager, but suggests that anyone
interested in modeling consult a friend or colleague
if they have second thoughts about their shoots. “I
have a really good friend who is the photographer that
got me started in modeling by asking if I’d model
for him, and he advises me on who to shoot with.”
Jayne offers the following advice to other
models.
“If you really want to try modeling, go for
it! Don’t pass up an opportunity. Also, one
should never have to pay to get started, because if
you have the look, TFP is the best way to begin a
portfolio. Lastly, every model experiences a negative
shoot. Don’t let it be a discouragement. Stick
with it.”

Her favorite modeling job was a particularly memorable
one. “My favorite job definitely was a shoot I
did for a magazine. We were on location in a restaurant,
which was closed for the day just for the shoot. I got
dressed up in this Euro-retro look, with a wig and wild
makeup. This was very far from the ‘real’
me, and I had a good time -- it was a fun experience.”
Acting is another creative area Jayne is hoping to
explore further in the future. “I have had appearances
on television shows, but I cannot put myself in the
category just yet. However, I do believe the modeling
is acting. I don’t normally wear sexy provocative
clothing, or even half the makeup applied at a regular
shoot. I am a T-shirt and jeans type of girl, with my
hair always in a ponytail. To turn into that ‘sex
symbol’ for a shoot, I have to act, because that
is not who I am normally… and I love it!”
