Playboy Casting in Toronto
June 18th and 19th

Paul Buceta, Playboy photographer from Toronto, will be conducting an open casting in Toronto on Monday, June 18th and Tuesday, June, 19th.

The Man Who Turned Down Playboy

Paul Buceta was a working stockbroker and investment advisor when he bought his first camera, a Mustek one- megapixel, in 2000. Entranced by the "film-is-free" nature of digital photography, Paul began taking photos of everything in sight. When a friend's girlfriend, an aspiring model, needed some photos to give to an agency, he took those. Other girls saw her photos, wanted some of their own, and he took those too. What he didn't take were photos for Playboy, even when they asked.

Playboy found Buceta in 2005. Starting with the output from that first Mustek camera, Paul began posting his photos on www.paulbuceta.com, which had grown to over a thousand pages. Because he was allowing his images of beautiful girls to circulate freely on the Net, they advertised his talent and intrigued Playboy. Prompted by a former Playmate's recommendation, Playboy contacted Paul and asked if he was interested in shooting for them. Paul enthusiastically agreed until he was told that submissions had to be made on film. As the proud owner of a new $9,000 digital Canon 1DS Mk II who had never shot film in his life, Paul worried that he would screw-up the assignment so he turned them down. Three months later, when Playboy began the switch to digital, they called again and the deal was struck.

His six year trek from stockbroker to photographer has also included side ventures into acting in commercials and A&E biographies, and adventure - he was tossed into the air while "running with the bulls" in Pamploma - but today Buceta is 100% photographer. In addition to shooting for the Playboy Special Editions, Paul is chief photographer for several fitness magazines - Fitness, Oxygen, Reps, Maximum Fitness - and a principal contributor to American Curves. His website, a combination portfolio and personal blog, has grown to over 2000 pages.

Commenting on the Industry, Paul laments the overuse of plastic surgery. "It has become a bit of an epidemic. It isn't just the breast implants. I see girls that are ruining otherwise beautiful faces. The inflated-lip business is out of control."

His advice to models coming to a Playboy casting: "Pretty faces are dime-a-dozen. To get noticed you have to project some personality into your posing. "
