The National Theatre for Student Artists will be casting "Circuits/Clipped," a double-bill of one-act plays. "Circuits" by Rachel Lepore is a nontraditional ghost story about a young woman who is visited by the restless spirit of her dead brother -- or perhaps she's simply having hallucinations of him. In "Clipped" by Sam Van Wetter, a woman believes that the spirit of her deadbeat father has been reincarnated into her new pet parrot.
Rehearsals will start June 29th in NYC. Performances will be on August 9th-10th at the 16th Street Theatre in Manhattan.
EMILY (Lead): Female, 14-18, All Ethnicities
Sixteen years old. Slim and pretty. Studious and exceptionally well organized. She is self-aware without being insecure. There is secret light behind her eyes, a hidden charisma, and a deeply buried fun side. A few metaphors for her personality: If she were a time she’d be a precise one o’clock, a season: springtime, a color: burgundy. She has many acquaintances, but very few close friends.
JACK (Lead): Male, 14-18, All Ethnicities
Nineteen. Handsome. He has boyish charm with an old soul. Was very popular in high school, a frat boy in college. Unintentionally narcissistic, surprisingly compassionate towards his little sister.
HUGH (Supporting): Male, 14-18, All Ethnicities
Sixteen. Sweet and nerdy, very skinny, attractive. His awkwardness is palpable. Confidant in himself as an intellectual, and this confidence translates into a surprisingly secure sense of self socially.
ELISE (Lead): Female, 14-18, All Ethnicities
Woman in her thirties, a delirious woman who craves understanding. Elise has a deep sense of longing while being able to show her insecurity. She has withdrawn from society out of necessity. A frivolous character that can play slapstick physical comedy as a mechanism to hide her deep sadness and self-depreciative demeanor. (Looking for an actor AGE 18 OR YOUNGER who can play 30s.)
PETEY (Lead): Male, 14-18, All Ethnicities
A man in his fifties-sixties who plays both a sardonic and irreverent, human-sized, parrot and plays a warm, loving, apologetic father to Elise. This actor must be able to play extravagant and outrageous while being able to rein everything in to play the sensitive and conciliatory father. He should be hilarious and comfortable with committing physically with the characters. He should be strong at creating distinct and varied performances for the two characters the actors must play. (Looking for an actor AGE 18 OR YOUNGER who can play 50s-60s.)
