Actors should prepare a song in the style of the show and are encouraged to accompany themselves with an instrument. An accompanist will be provided. Audition appointment, headshot and resume are required.
Equity & Non-Equity roles available. Scripts available for perusal at WTT Box Office (Tues-F 12-6). Local hire only. No housing or travel provided.
Performers of all ethnic and racial backgrounds are encouraged to attend.
Hank Williams – Male 25-30. A south Alabama hillbilly singer, thin and black-eyed. The role requires a strong Bari-Tenor (yodel flip, falsetto) who can embody that signature “Hank” sound. Must play guitar. Range: A3-A5
Tee-Tot – Male. A black south Alabama street singer. Hank’s mentor; teaches Hank to sing with soul. Must play some guitar. Range: E2 to Bflat5
The Waitress – Female late 20s-late30s. The keeper of an all-night diner somewhere in the south. A cheerful, lonely person. Traditionally a non-singing role but a strong mezzo/belter is a plus.
Mama Lilly – Female 50s. Hank’s mother. A “Marjorie Main”-strong and somewhat overbearing. Range: E4-A5
Hoss – Male 25-30. A member of Hank’s band, The Drifting Cowboys. A big, boyish man. Plays upright (“doghouse”) bass. Range: D3-E4
Jimmy (Burrhead) – Male 20s-early30s. A member of Hank’s band, plays lead electric guitar. From Oklahoma, especially so in his speech. Range: D3 to G4
Leon (Loudmouth) – Male 20s-early30s. A member of the band and skillful musician on many instruments, featured on the fiddle. Pleasant and taciturn. Strong bari-tenor.
Fred Rose (Pap) – Male 40s-50s. A founder and executive of a Nashville music publishing company. A Midwesterner from Chicago. Traditionally non-singing but country vocals a plus.
Audrey Williams – Female 20s-early30s. Hank’s first wife, later his professional widow. A blond Alabama beauty, sweet and exuberant and sure. Range: D4-G5
Shag - Male. The pedal steel guitarist. Age and type are flexible, singing a plus.
