Director: Susan G. Acheson. This original musical drama brings to life the story of King David, a humble shepherd boy destined to become King.
Auditions: Thursday, April 4th from 7:00pm – 10:00pm and Saturday, April 6th from 1:00pm – 6:00pm at Timothy Christian School, 28 Elmhurst Drive, Etobicoke. Auditioners will be given a specific time slot. Open auditions will also be held on both dates and those individuals will be seen between those with scheduled slots.
ACTORS: Prepare a 2 minute DRAMATIC monologue of your choice. You may also be asked to do a cold read from the script.
SINGERS: Any contemporary musical theatre number that shows off your best qualities. Provide suitable accompaniment on a backing track on CD (no additional vocals, please) or be prepared to sing accapella.
DANCERS: Wear appropriate attire/footwear and prepare a 2 minute contemporary or lyrical dance piece.
** PLEASE NOTE: This is a Toronto Fringe Festival production and you must be fully available between June 29th and July 14th (the finalized performance schedule will be given in early May).
This is a non-union, non-paying production (honorariums).

NATHAN, THE PROPHET / LEAD / MALE / 28-60 / MIDDLE EASTERN COMPLEXION / ACTOR, NON-SINGING The story is narrated by Nathan, the Prophet. He opens the production and ties all the scenes together. He is on stage between every scene throughout the entire show plus he has one scene where he confronts King David about his infidelity & murder. There is a substantial amount of dialogue.

KING DAVID / LEAD / MALE / 20-35 / MIDDLE EASTERN COMPLEXION / ACTOR, SINGER-TENOR His early life is as a shepherd boy and he rises to become a great warrior and eventually, King of Israel. He is a man of great faith and he loves God, but he is also deeply flawed. Both his failures, along with his humility, make him a complex and compelling character. David is on stage for the majority of the show and he sings 8 songs (two are duets). There is a fair amount of dialogue as well.

KING SAUL / SUPPORTING / MALE / 30–50 / MIDDLE EASTERN COMPLEXION / ACTOR, SINGER-BASS He was Israel’s first appointed King but soon rebelled against God and was eventually replaced by David. He loves David at first but becomes extremely jealous and begins to despise him as David’s popularity among the people becomes greater than his own. He eventually tries to kill David, forcing him into exile. He ends his own life during a battle with the Philistines in which his son, Johnathan, is killed. King Saul is in three scenes and sings one song with David.

JOHNATHAN / SUPPORTING / SAMUEL (FEATURED) / MALE / 20-35 / MIDDLE EASTERN COMPLEXION / ACTOR, SINGER-TENOR King Saul’s son and David’s brother-in-law. Johnathan and David have a very deep friendship, with a bond stronger than brothers. Johnathan loves and protects David, and warns him about his father, Saul, trying to kill him. He then helps David to escape. Johnathan dies in a battle against the Philistines. Johnathan is in three scenes and sings one song with David. This role is doubled with the role of Samuel, the Prophet, who anoints young David to be King of Israel in one scene.
